I've heard a rumor that EC90 Equipe bars are only recommended for use with 2 bolt stem designs. 1) Is this true? 2) Anyone had any trouble with them using a 4 bolt setup?

I'm not a materials whiz at all, but for me, when it comes to manufacturer specs in terms of handlebars and stems, I follow them pretty much to the T (especially when dealing with anything carbon). Thats me though....

Yes, it's true. Easton specifies using a two-bolt stem only. It's printed right on my bar, if I recall correctly. Using a four-bolt stem will technically void your warranty, though how they could tell that a four bolt stem was used in every case, I do not know. The problem I've heard with using a four-bolt stem on a carbon bar is that it can create stress risers due to uneven tightening. I think a four-bolt stem could be used if absolutely necessary, if good care is taken in installation. If at all possible, use the two-bolt and eliminate any lingering question marks. I'm using a Thomson X2 stem.
