I had a very nice couple of days cycling on Thursday and the on Saturday where
I cycled to Nottingham to visit friends for a mini reunion for 5 founder
members of Welbeck College
The journey from my home near Doncaster was 47.33 miles on the way down on
Thursday and towing my trailer with a decent shirt and long trousers and coat
for the "hooley" I did much as I always do and averaged 10 mph almost exactly
achieve less than 5 hours for the trip on a beautiful cycling . Cross country
on local road to Worksop and then down through Sherwood on to the A614, then
the A60 into Nottingham before heading for Clifton Village. A really nice ride
in almost ideal cycling weather -- with the cross wind actually coming from my
west rear quarter and making life easy. Stopped for an apple, orange and half
a Mars bar about 5 miles north of Nottingham city centre to fortify me for the
mid afternoon traffic which wasn't to bad -- and where it was snarled up on
the A453 M! feeder road == I stayed don road and made much more progress than
the motorised traffic.
Saturday morning at 10 am saw me ready for the return run over stuffed with 2
days of good food, excellent wine ) and a magic bottle of port that never
emptied before we crashed out to bed on the Friday night
The forecast was quite good but I was faced with the prospect of head winds
all the way back. But in the event it was a bright sunny autumn day and the
wind stayed gentle for over half the trip back -- on the sane route except in
the city road of Nottingham. return mi;lage was exactly 48 miles as I opened
my front door and it took me 5 hours 15 minutes ( so a bit slower on the
return but it included a slow loiter through Worksop which has a very busy
street market which I walked through and sampled a few wares!
A totally successful trip. The cycling was 2 nice day trips and you can
imagine that 70 year old schoolboys never ever stopped talking. In short with
a wind proof on the bike and full gloves on the way down (gloves to warm) and
the same but with mitts for the way back
My Thorn Raven Tour, now a year old on Tuesday next, continues to delight me
and I used every one of its 14 gears ( especially the "granddad" ones) all the
time
Now already planning next years cycle camping tour to circumnavigate Italy
clockwise from Venice and back to Venice all the way round the coast to Pisa
before crossing the mountains back to Venice
