Quoth Lewis Campbell:
Quoted message said:I have a wheel with a Dura-Ace 7 speed cassette, 12-21, that I would like to change to an 8 speed,
12-24 (or thereabouts).
Is there anything I have to look out for in my choice?
Will 'any' Shimano HG cassette work, or does it have to be DA ?
7-speed Dura-Ace was Uniglide. It is possible to fit Hyperglide splined sprockets onto it if you
grind/file off the wide spline insied of each of the Hyperglide sprockes.
However, you'll still need the 12 tooth threaded Dura-Ace Uniglide top sprocket to hold everything
together. If yours is worn out, you're
S.O.L., these are extinct.
It is possible to replace the 7-speed Uniglide body with an 8-speed Hyperglide body (has to be the
Dura-Ace model though.)
If you do replace the body, you will be able to use any 7-,8-,9- or 10-speed Hyperglide cassette
that doesn't include an 11 tooth or smaller sprocket.
I have a detailed article on Dura-Ace interchangeability issues at:

I sell the Hyperglide bodies and lend out the special tool, see:
