Hi,
Are the brake shoes in a drum brake supposed to be treated with something?

Care? WD-40? Acupuncture.

I'm not sure what you mean, but normally drum brake shoes are cleaned with
brake cleaner and the drum cleaned out (of the brake dust). The pivot points
of the shoes can carefully be greased, but beyond that I never heard of
'treating' the brake shoes with anything.

Sometimes sanding them will help, especially if they look glazed. Make
sure that no grease or oil gets to the brake shoes.
