I'm sure it's illegal, so you run the risk of your package
being confiscated. As to quality, I have no idea.

Some drug producers in India are perfectly reputable and
meet FDA standards for production quality. They subcontract
to U.S. companies. If you buy from one of these, you'll get
entirely satisfactory quality. However, you may still have
trouble actually importing the medication, depending on
which medication it is. So the issue is more likely to be
customs than production quality, provided that you buy from
a reputable firm (check them out carefully). I suspect that
the most reputable firms probably avoid selling medication
directly in order to avoid offending their primary corporate
customers, but that's just a guess.
