  1. Buying a new Burley Rock-n-Roll tandem (that's their mountain tandem). We will be riding both on and off-road. The off-road will mostly be on dirt forest service roads, etc...nothing techincal (no singletrack).

When on-road we will have 1" slicks. For the dirt stuff, we'll go with something wider and more agressive.

What we can't decide on is if we should get the straight bar setup, or the optional drop bar setup that Burley offers.

I can't say for sure, but am guessing that 50-60% of our riding will be on pavement...the other 40-50% on dirt.

So...should we go straight bar or drop?

    Thank you!

The answer I would give is, "it depends." If you are the captain and feel comfortable in the drops, then drop bars give you the option of more hand positions. On the other hand you may prefer a straight bar for the greater sense of control you will have with it. If your stoker is the type that moves around a lot and you are not comfortable with that, then straight bars are what I would recommend

  4. Straight bars with bar ends to give you more hand positions is good if you are more of an upright rider. I'd use whatever bars you've been using on your other bikes.
