I have in mind playing with luxeon LEDs.
I know this is old hat, but I thought a switch mode buck regulator
with feedback from a current sense resistor would do nicely. Then I
found that if you live in the land of the free, you can buy the
circuity already potted up in a nice block of resin:

350, 500, 700 or 1000 mA max drive, drive from DC or AC, adjustable
current, TTL input for PWM up to 10kHz, drive up to six luxeon in
series - all I want and more, probably more reliable, more performance
and lots less aggro than working it out myself. One of these, two
Luxeon III, a PIC and my lumicycle battery should go together very
tidily.
Has anyone got their hands on one?
Unfortunately, I can't find a UK stockist. Ultraleds.co.uk has a very
limited range, but don't have the external control version in any
rating other than 700mA. Lumidrives.com are supposedly a UK
distributor, but don't admit to the product on their web site.
Anyone know a UK distributor?
Alternatively, I could buy from the US. Shipping is relatively
expensive (20$ for the unit, 20$ for shipping), I don't suppose anyone
would fancy sharing an order with me?
regards, Ian SMith
