  1. Is there a bike computer that registers wheel revolutions so I can calculate more accurate distance measurements?

  2. There may be some that show revolutions, but many just use that to calculate total distance traveled and speed.

    How would it be more accurate? What advantage would it give you?

    Bike computers already ask you to measure your wheel circumference (incuding tire, of course) carefully and enter it into the computer. The computer then simply does the multiplication for you and gives you the distance readout.

    The highest resolution odometer readings are in hundredths of a kilometer. That's 10meters (about 33 feet) -- no good for checking a 400 meter running track.

    If you could read wheel rev.s you would get within about 2 meters and if you counted spokes you could get within about 0.07 meters (1.2 inches). You could estimate to about half an inch and tell if the track was metric (400 meters) or US(440 yards).

  5. This came up on our track team in high school. Our solution was to get some of that neon orange tape and tape it around a wheel. Then you ride some known distance to measure the circumference of the wheel. Using that you count the number of times you see the tape as you go around the track.
