Sounds good -- did you make it at home? I've never made tempura. But I
can feel a craving coming on.
My back has been bothering me lately, so after a busy week and a very
busy morning, I crashed on my bed and watched cooking shows on PBS.
America's Test Kitchen and Lidia were making a lot of pasta, among other
things (Lidia made a peach lasagna that looked pretty yummy). We didn't
have much in the house for dinner, so I ended up making a quick pasta
sauce of sauteed garlic (tons!), tomatoes (those Del Monte petite diced
tomatoes -- I like them much better then the bigger diced tomatoes),
fresh herbs (basil, oregano, rosemary and parsley) and hot pepper
flakes. My 8-year-old requested tri-color rotini, which wouldn't have
been my pasta of choice, but we went with it. Made a simple green salad
to go with it, and broccoli for the non-salad-eaters. Some red wine for
my husband and I -- not sure what it was, probably a cheapo bottle from
Trader Joe's, but it was good.
The sauce was really good, and a nice change -- much more spicy and
herb-y than I usually make. My son was just starving and polished off
two platesful. The salad tasted really good tonight, too. We emptied
the bowl, and I had to make more.
For dessert, we had vanilla and chocolate ice cream smothered in fresh
cherries, with chopped semi-sweet chocolate sprinkled on (hmm...next
time, I'll make a quick hot fudge sauce instead).
And it's cooled off some. Maybe we'll finish the rest of the wine out
on the patio later, after the kids go to bed.
