  1. Eastbound and down, loaded up and truckin', we're gonna do what they say
can't be done. We got a long way to go, and a short time to get there.
I'm eastbound, just watch ol' "JimLane" run.

OK, Wavy - here's a couple of sites, followed by their list of diner
lingo. There's millions of more sites out there with more info. Go
to www.google.com and type in (including quote marks) "diner lingo".
You'll find a lot more than you hoped for! Here's 2 examples:
    http://www.hungrymonster.com/humor/Restaurant_Lingo.cfm:

Adam and Eve on a raft: Two poached eggs on toast.

I'm sorry, but your post went right over his head for a second time.

Yeah, I don't get it. Gee, how does Adam and Eve on a raft equal eggs
on toast?? That just doesn't make sense to me. DUHHH.

Does anywon know "Diner Lingo"? Do you know what I'm talking about?
What are some of the things that you would say, when taking an order in
won of those old-fashioned resaurants or coffeehouses? It's like a
"code" that somewon would use to communicate with somewon, (like the
cook). You would subsitute won word or phrase for a food item, instead
of calling it what it is. Does this make sense?

Like, you would say "gimme two 'wagon-wheels on hay' and a 'dog on a
raft'," or something like that. Is that something? Do you guys know
any of these? Like, for example, what would you say when you want to
order a ham omlette, and potatoes, and a cup of coffee? Can anywon tell
    me?

Does anywon know what I'm talking about here? Let me know some "diner
lingo"! It will be fun. Good night, I love you.

    Wavy G.

The diner lingo as you call it is properly called short-order slang.

A google search will yield plenty of websites as well as a slang dictionary.
IIRC the codes tended to be quite regional.

Huh? What the hell? Did I, at some point, make a negative remark
regarding you helping me by posting a list of common "diner lingo"? If
so, I simply do not recall. Perhaps you mistook my mocking Jim Lane for
saying your post went "over my head," as an insult towards you. If this
is what you think, I must say you were wrong.

Gosh, I simply said I was looking for a little "friendly banter," but if
    this is it, I'll take a "rain-check."

Sorry, Wavy - apologies. I have short fuse sometimes, and it only
gets me in trouble. I wasn't really mad at you inpartcular, you just
happened to be a convenient target <G>. I was mainly frustrated that
the thread went on and on massively cross-posted (like I'm doing now,
once again) and I was raising the hackles of other groups because I
don't know what group you're posting from. If you'd like to trim your
headers to just rec.food.cooking, you're more than welcome here.
Otherwise, this'll have to be a last response - it's rude to other
people to cross-post off-topic stuff to their groups. They only let
me come here when I promise to be good, ya know.

Me dear Alley Gator - this guy is just trolling you (and anyone else who
happens to bite), no matter what he says - he's really not interested in any
of the info you so kindly provided, just in the number of responses he can
elicit, and the number of people he can [censored] etc.

You can of course deal with him/his messages however you wish, I would just
like you to be in possession of this little bit of information before you
    decide.

I hope this helps some! ',;~}~

I appreciate the input, Shaun. And, once again, I'm really sorry
about the massive cross-posting. I almost always try to give
everybody a second chance, or 2 or 3 or 50. Guess I'm a sucker. This

OK, I know I said I wouldn't respond again unless you trimmed your
headers, but I sense that you're asking an honest question. When you
post to a group such as, say, rec.food.cooking, and the subject of the
post has something to do with food or whatever, people that are
    hanging out in alt.music.pink-floyd,alt.comedy.standup, and
alt.drugs.pot don't really want to be bothered with what they would
rightly consider off-topic BS. It's not fair to them, and it's
considered to be extremely rude in Usenet - probably even more rude
than posting in all CAPS, which is considered shouting. Everybody
doesn't have cable or DSL, and a lot of time is wasted down-loading
off-topic headers. If you would please just trim your headers, Wavy
to only include rec.food.cooking when you post here, I think you will
find that there are a whole bunch of really good folks that hang out
here. And I think you'll enjoy yourself immensely. You are, as I
said, more than welcome here just like anybody else is - we're all
pretty much tolerant to a fault, IMO. (No, that would be the folks
who are overly-tolerant of an idiot like myself). And since this will
absolutely be my last massive cross-post, to you guys in the Pink
Floyd group - I ordered the Australian Pink Floyd Liverpool DVD set -
it's awesome, and I highly recommend it. I guess I'm getting senile,
but I like these guys better than the original.

You need to read some FAQ's of usenet...
Several of the groups you posted to, this was OFF TOPIC.

Basically, that's considered to be rude!

    I snipped those out.
