  1. Can anyone tell me the difference between calories and kilojules? As my bike computer displays how many calories i've burnt and the back of food labels it has the kilojules (energy) content, and i've been confused as to how many kj's I need to take when i'm burning "X" amount of calories per ride??😄

  2. * Thinks back to high school, which was a looong time ago *

    1 Calorie = 4.18 kilojoules

The convention is that Calories with a big "C", as in this context, actually means kilocalories (i.e. 1000 calories, which by convention is written with a little "c"😉.

  3. yes, 1 Kcal = ~ 4.18 kj.

however, depending on the OP actual bike computer the energy expenditure could be completely wrong. It will only be (ballpark) accurate if the original poster is using a Power Tap, or SRM. This is because energy expended is equal to average power (/1000) * time (secs). If you're using (e.g.) a HRmonitor it will base EE on some regression equation of avg HR (or something) and this won't be accurate (else we wouldn't need power meters, we could just make do with HRmonitors or bike computers).
