  1. Hello there,

I'm new here so I better tell you a bit about myself:

    - 16 years of age
    - Adore cycling!
    - Always willing to improve
    - Riding for about 9 years. 'Seriously' only 3 months...
    - BMI: 19

As I'd like to improve my overall performance, I guess I ought to take care of my diet.

    - What should I be eating?
    - What sort of exercise should I be doing? (Apart from cycling, of course)

    That's it for now

Hope you don't mind the newbie questions 🙁

Welcome, Rev. Here's what you shouldn't be eating: hydrogenated anything and high fructose corn syrup. If you start looking at food labels you'll be shocked at how most things have that poisonous [censored] in them. I'd also recommend staying away from refined flours when possible; look for whole wheat breads, pastas, etc. I'd also recommend moderating your meat and dairy intake (and maybe ditch the meat entirely) - if interested in that topic, check out "The China Study" on amazon.com. The stuff that our food manufacturers have been selling us is obscene, and our government (U.S., Inc.) is complicit. But what else is new?

  3. Thanks Pendejo.

Worst of all is that some manufactures, sometimes, don't label trans fats (correct me if I'm wrong). So it's difficult to know what really goes in the process.

Oh dear, that won't be easy :p

    Exactly...And nothing's going to change 😠

Yes, our government lets them play the usual tricks. They are allowed to put "0% transfat" on the labels as long as there is less than 1/2 gram of transfat per serving. So the manufacturer can define their serving so that there is just a bit less than that in it. And 1/2 gram, multiplied several times a day by people thinking they are getting none at all, is a lot. So the key is to check the list of ingredients. If you see hydrogenated something, or margerine, or shortening on that list, it's almost certainly transfats.

  5. Hi

By all means pay a visit to a certified nutritionist in town ! Explain her/him the amount of training you do on the bike and how much calories you spend training.

At your age and if you do some serious training nothing you eat would be too much really. Remember you are still growing.

Its important to get professional advice because good eating habits last a lifetime. Now... when you get to compete at top level races and your body is done growing then you can adapt your diet towards your racing needs

    Good luck
