I've never had the Flu since (if I even had it in the first place), but
was wondering if it can just come & go like that? Or does it sound like
it was something else?

Actually it sounds just like the flu. The flu characteristically has a
very rapid onset associated with high fever, body aches, cough,
respiratory distress. Don't think vomiting is all that common with the
flu.

The flu generally last 3 days or so assuming no complications occur.
You can shorten the duration by a day or so if you take an antiviral
medication within 24 hours of becoming symptomatic.

Does a "cough" HAVE to be a component of the Flu? That was one symptom
I definitely didn't have that night or into the next few days. It still
puzzles me.

No, it does not have to be a component but it certainly is a very
common symptom of the flu. Did you have a sore throat??

No sore throat either. Just the muscle aches, shivers, nausea. It was
just so prounounced & happened so quickly. One of the very few times
I've been sick (like in disease) in my life beyonds occasional colds, so
I remember it quite vividly. Probably will never know for sure. Maybe
a touch of food poisoning?
