does anyone know the name of a system that someone told me about that allows
the cyclist to stand up and pedal and change gear ? sorry cant be more

I've never had a problem shifing while standing using standard Sram or
Shimano derailleurs. You've just got to modulate your pedaling a bit,
just reduce pedal pressure to allow the chain to shift.
But, I've heard the Rohloff speed hub allows you to shift gear without
adjusting pedal pressure. I've not used one and so I don't know how
good/bad they are.

Apparently the Rohloff hubs let you change gear while not pedaling at all.
