Generally it's the shifters that are critical not the derailleurs so I'd
expect the answer will be yes.Don't know about 'top end' stuff, but I'm running 2002 Deore 9-sp shifters
to operate a 1991 Deore DX rear derailleur on a 1993 Shimano hub (7 sp.
converted to 9 sp.) and it all runs quite sweet.Cheers
