  1. Seems like alot of you know about these, hope you can help.

I remember someone mentioned Excalibur brand being great. I am ready to go
buy the Nesco Snackmaster from Wal-mart, which I think people said is good
    to start with.

BUT - I can buy an older model Excalibur for about $50, used. It's model is
    ED 700, with 4 12"x12" trays.

Is it worth 50 bux for a "very good used condition" Excalibur, even if it's
not the newest model? Or should I just go with the wal-mart one for about
    $30?

    Thanks for your help-JoAnna

  2. As a buyer of the Wal-mart model, I am happy with it for the $40.00
price. Making fruit leathers requires the purchase of plastic tray
liners, or considerable imagination with aluminum foil.

I would likely go with the Excalibur with those nice large trays.

You can improvise any special trays you need out of aluminum foil or
    aluminum foil trays.

One of the great things to try for camping is to get frozen vegetables
in different mixes and to dry them, starting from the frozen state.

You get great tasting veggies for camping that reconstitute with a
couple of hours soaking in a plastic bag and finishing them over heat
    with flavoring sauce added.

    Thanks Jim -

I should've added that I am mainly interested in making jerky.

Of those who mainly make jerky that I've met, almost all of them are
    users of the Excalibur.
