I'm not sure who posted it, but I remember reading on here a while back about a trick for extracting the cranks from the latest generation of hollowtech splined shimano BBs with a normal crank pulling tool. It was suggested that a Euro one cent coin was exactly the right size for covering over the hole in the centre for the tool to push against. Now this may work well if your cranks are loose / newly installed etc, however in my case I ended up with a very stationary crank and a very mashed and shredded Euro one cent coin! Just a word of warning... don't try this!! I spent some time extracting all the mangled bits of coin from the threads of the bottom bracket, which fortunately wasn't samaged by the experience. I found that filling the hole with a suitably sized bolt with did the trick, but is there a "proper" way of doing this?

Proper tool? eg. Park CCP-4 or CWP-6

The latest Octalinks have a screw-in ally cover with a hole in the middle - I think you are just supposed to unscrew the hex bolt through this hole, and the hex bolt itself pulls the crank off (this worked for me on an Ultegra BB/Crank, after playing around trying to stuff bolts & stuff into the hollow spindle). My LX looks like the same set-up as well, although I haven't had to pop it off yet...
