Found a Presto "Options" Multicooker ($30 @ Sears). It's got a detachable
thermostat (WARM - 400 F.). Includes a steamer/fryer basket and glass
cover.
It's basically a 6-quart pot with a built in electric coil (1300 watts)
in the bottom. Its four feet are sturdy and non skid.
It looks super convenient. It can slow cook (maybe), make soups, stews,
steam veggies, cook rice, deep fry (8-cups oil) food and even make
popcorn.
Detach the thermostat and everything else can go in the dishwasher.
MUCH better than the Frybaby it's replacing!

The Presto Deep Fat Fryer is the best around. Better than the $100 items
floating about at Wm Sonoma, etc.
At WalMart it's about $24!
