  1. Hi all
I have been lurking for quite some time - learning quite a bit from those of
you with experiences & knowledge to share. Being in Canada, I really didn't
have to deal with the challenges of Thanksgiving, but preparing to deal with
the upcoming festive season - with all the parties and foods and sabotage!
I used this newsgroup & WOE to drop 30-lbs a few years ago - but regained it
back and then some and some and some.

For the next few months I'm working on a modified low carb plan (but also
low fat/low cal), with the assistance of the Dr.B Diet Clinic. I know that
many people have very strong opinions of this program and its methods, but
it is the assistance and push that I need to be successful this time around.

I just wanted to say hi to everyone and introduce myself - single mom of
three girls, oldest (21)just moved out on own, middle child (17)just started
university away from home, leaving just a 11 year old left in the nest. We
moved last September back to our home area to be closer to extended family
and friend, meaning buying a new house, change of job & schools. Basically a
change in every aspect of my life - the final piece of that puzzle was my
    weight & health level.
hope to see less of all of you soon (ongoing shrinkage)
    Thanks

  4. Hi, Sharri, and welcome. You're doing the right thing to get the
weight/health thing under control ASAP. Your numbers look as if you are
already off to a good start.

You'll have to let us know how your Dr. B thing goes. I know it's typically
been "gospel" in lc-land that it is counterproductive to keep fat low when
lc-ing, but I think the success of South Beach for many dieters proves that
it can work for many people. I think it's particularly appropriate when
you're trying to fit more carbohydrates into your meals or for relatively
short-term blitzes that get you off to a good start, weight-loss wise. I
remember that short-term Stillman (low fat & very lc) dieting was a fad here
on asdl-c for a while, a number of years back. Anyone remember that? Anyway,
there is no one correct way to diet, and most here recognize that.

Personally, I'm back for "retraining", as I've somehow allowed carb creep
and lack of exercise to put quite a few pounds back on. This has happened
before, but it somehow always takes me by surprise, especially at how fast
the pounds come back on once I get past some carb/exercise threshold.
Anyway, I'll join you in reestablishment of good, lc and exercise habits
    over the holidays.
