Hi, i'm newbie in the forum and not so much to mtb as well.

I have a 97' gt talera (cromoly version) and i think it's heavy compared to new alluminum frames, so....... i'd like to upgrade my frame and go for new aluminum frame but.......

I weight 220 pounds and i don't know if aluminum can stand my weight in circunstances like hard xc,normal xc and a little bit of jumps on trails as well.

I've seeing a gt agressor frame or the alpha aluminum by trek and these are my options.

and the other thing is to keep my cromoly frame and upgrade components.

is it really an issue the matter of weight in a mtb but something like 4 pounds ? my gt is weighting 30.5 pounds and

what do you recommend fellers?

thanks and every reply would be great

It's not about steel or aluminum, but how it's built. A cheap frame is not likely worth upgrading, and saving a few pounds can be big bucks.Consider loosing some weight instead if you are not already a perfect specimen.

Thanks for that, i think the same thing,it's just some people round here said that with 4 pound lighter you can go on uphills more relaxed than with 4 pounds heavier, and i'm talking about an entry level bike,i think like you said if i were a pro, 4 pounds is worth

thanks
