  1. So our friend and local hammerhead Dave Wiens won the Leadville 100 by about
15 Minutes on Saturday after he and the second place finisher took a wrong
turn and had to backtrack to get on course again. This was his second
Leadville 100 and his second win. Dave missed the course record by 15
Seconds and would have destroyed it if he hadn't gotten off course. They got
off course because they got to an intersection long before expected and it
wasn't being manned yet. This year was particularly hot, and other friends
in the race really struggled (my buddy and LBS owner Rick finished in 10:05
and he usually breaks nine hours - on his SS)

I chatted with those guys a while at a potluck at Rick's house last night.
The best story was Dave saying that at about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through
and he'd been riding with the guy who got second for a while and that guy
was going to stop at a feed station. He asked Dave to wait and seemed put
out when Dave said "Sorry!" and kept riding. C'mon, it's a race and this is
a feed station, not a crash on the road!

    Matt (yay Dave!)

    Correction:
It turns out he won by about 35 Minutes coming in at just over seven hours.
    Wow!
