  1. After almost losing my breakfast catching the last of the Rick the
[censored] show on PBS, I was delighted to see a new (to me) Latin cooking
show, Daisy Cooks. Whatta hoot. Not only are the recipes intriguing
(mostly Cuban, PR, etc), but Daisy Martinez is fresh breeze. She's
funny, candid, and cute to boot. Some quotes:

    On chopping:
"I have to watch when I'm chopping. I can't not look like Jacques
Pepin. I like my fingers. I'm very attached to them."

    On handling habanero peppers:
"The oil stays on your fingers so you have to be careful. You
don't want to touch you eyes or nose or mouth ...heaven forbid you
should have to go to the bathroom...."

I think the show is a keeper.

I can't stand her. It's that foul accent.
Maybe you don't think she has an accent,
in which case I suppose you could enjoy
the show. I can't. Her and Nick Stellino,
though in the latter case it's because the
accent is both annoying and fake. Daisy
isn't fake, but she makes up for that by
    being even more annoying.

If I can find an infomercial for 18/10
stainless cookware on Shop At Home, I'd
rather watch that than either of these
people. As a last resort, I'll watch
Daisy with the sound turned all the way
    down.

I watched her show for the second time today and, as last time, found
her to be quite likeable. She comes across as being quite at ease and
to really enjoy what she's doing. Also seems to have a wicked sense
    of humor!

  4. As a Hispanic, let me assure you that most of Daisy's recipes are
prettified to the point of absurdity. In many cases, dishes contain
extraneous or unwanted ingredients. Nonetheless, it's a step in the
    right direction.
