Former Olympic gold medalist Dmitri Nelyubin has been fatally stabbed in St Petersburg. Nelyubin, a member of the four-man Soviet team which won the 4000 metres pursuit at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, was knifed near his home early on New Year's Day.
