linked with a new, progressive *BRAIN_DISORDER* that mostly affects men over 50. Called FXTAS, the
illness affects older men with the same *GENETIC* mutation that causes fragile X syndrome, the most

"FXTAS is an enigma," says Hagerman. "The disorder...is caused by a defect in a gene known to cause
mental retardation usually diagnosed in early childhood."
