    The rear shifting will not index correctly unless you use a Shimano 10 speed cassette.

    just spring for the cassette and chain in addition to the shifters, the word on the street is that those three things are all you need to upgrade an existing 9 speed setup to 10.

    Can the 10-speed cassette be used on 9-speed hubs???

    Yes, Shimano 10 speed cassette can be use on Shimano 9 speed HG hubs.
