  1. The last time I bought vitamin D I bought "D3" because it was supposed to be
the same form of D that the body produces.

Today, I went to a large local vitamin store. The clerk tried to sell me on
their house brand D, because if you bought 1 the 2nd was half price. He
then noted that they only had 1 bottle in stock. I asked about D3. He said
it is the same thing. I made a face, and he told me to look at the
ingredients of a bottle he handed me (marked D3) and the house brand. They
both showed identical ingredients. The ingredient was cholecalciferol.
There were about 20 different D products there. Some were fish oil based
D&A and some had the cholecalciferol.

On the internet, one product claims it is from fish oil, but has had the
vitamin A removed, thus making it D3.

I had thought the fish oil D&A products were a form of D that was different
than that produced by sunlight on the human body.

    Help!

Cholecalciferol = vitamin D3. Cholecalciferol is the form of vitamin D
(D3), which is synthetized by humans and which is found in cod liver
oil and many other animal products. It is the preferred and most
researched form of vitamin D. There is other form of vitamin D,
vitamin D2 a.k.a. ergocalciferol, which is found in some forest
mushrooms and perhaps in trace amounts in some other plants. D2 is
less effective than D3 and has been researched less. Take D3, avoid
    D2.
