US cyclist D'Antoni has two-year suspension for doping

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- US cyclist Joseph D'Antoni
tested positive for a form of the blood-booster EPO and has accepted a
two-year ban, the US Anti-Doping Agency announced in Colorado Springs
on Friday.
D'Antoni tested positive for recombinant human Eryhropoietin
(rEPO), at a track cycling World Cup qualifier on February 26 of this
year.
The drug is a synthetic hormone that stimulates the body's
production of red blood cells, thereby increasing oxygen transportand
aerobic power.
D'Antoni, 27, accepted a two-year suspension from all sanctioned
competition in accordance with the rules of the International Cycling
Union (UCI). The suspension dates from September 22, the date he
