  1. This fall I will be racing cyclocross. Are there any specific training things I should be doing to improve my cyclocross riding?

  2. Simon Burney's book on cyclo-cross training and technique is held in wide regard. I haven't read it but will be buying a copy soon. Amazon (UK) link here.

Make sure you have good base endurance if the season in the US is as long as here in the UK (Sept-Jan) before starting any sprint/speed/threshold work.

Lots and lots of intervals. Cross is a very intense event, you're on the rivet all the time. I do a lot of 3-5 minute intervals and 20 minute hard tempo rides. Also practice dismounting and hopping over barriers at speed (they're usually 14" high). I get a sore lower back from shouldering the bike and running the hills. I'm doing a lot more core strength this fall for that.
