  1. I’m new to riding. I want to start riding as a form of exercise. I would like to ride throughout the city as well as off road, but mainly throughout the city and smooth bike trails.

Typically the city roads are smooth in some areas, and rough and pothole infested in other areas.

I would like to buy a “Cyclocross” or “Tri – Road” bike for this purpose with “Aero Handlebars”. Don’t know if that would be wise?

Can Cyclocross and Tri-Road bikes handle rough roads? And are Aero Handlebars safe on rough roads or rough trails?

  2. Tri and TT bikes are for the perfect concrete so that's about your last option.

Cyclo-cross bikes (as the name implies) are made for rough roads. In my opinion it is the most versatile bike. It is enough road-bike-like that if you have a set of wheels with road tyres the bike wouldn't hold you down untill pro-level races and with spiked tyres you can ride it on icy forest trail.
