The FIAC board of directors has decided to add Cyclocross to their list
of prospective national championships for 2005. As announced earlier,
proposals will also be considered for elite men's and women's
championships in the following events: Stage Race, Hill Climb, Six-Day
Track, Criterium, and Team Time Trial. Only established race organizers
with a record of quality events will be considered.

These championships will be run under FIAC Racing Rules and only riders
who hold an annual license from a FIAC member association will be
eligible for championship placings, though others may be allowed to
participate. FIAC will provide medals for the top three places and
championship jerseys for the winners. To apply, fill out an application
and submit it by Feb. 15, 2005.

FIAC supports racing programs that are independent of USA Cycling. See
http://www.fiac.us.

Consider the following factorial combination:

men, women
SR, CX, HC, 6D, crit, TTT, ITT, RR
18, elite, 35, 45, 55, 65

96 FIAC national champions, among others....

Dan

P.S. I may be overcounting TTT, but then that's more than one jersey
per winner, so I probably undercount jerseys.

MtB Nationals pushes USAC over 500. They're still the largest offender
by far. There must be a price break on jerseys at that volume.

Well, here's my take on it - all of this national champion **** simply takes
away the fun of racing which should be racing the race you're in and not for
national points. Cyclocross seems to be the last fun racing and it is
beginning to look like they want to grab the fun from that one as well.

well.

Fun is in the eye of the beholder. I've raced lots in the last few
years, and well, somedays are fun, others are not (results wise),
but I always seem to have fun whether it is at a large race, or a
small local race, it all depends on you. If you want to boo-hoo
national championship races, just don't go to them. Stick to what you
like. It's really that simple, nobody is making you do these national
championship races right?

Hey, I decided not to race because I don't think that it's fair to the real
racers to have some 60 year old plodding around the track. I'll leave that
to Eric Heiden in his later years.
