Twice a year my company's crash safety engineering specialists meet for a
couple of days to share experience and plan future work. This time it was
the turn of the U.K. to host the meeting and, even better news, it was about
7 miles away from my house so I decided to go by bike. I'd checked that
parking would be available, but it was with a little trepidation that I
rolled up at the conference centre yesterday morning and asked at the
reception area whether there was anywhere I could leave the bike.
The lady on the desk made a quick phone call and said to me: "Just bring
your bike through the reception area, no, don't worry about carrying it you
can wheel it, go down to the Leisure Club and they will sort you out". Once
at the Club my bike was locked away in the boiler room and I was invited to
use the Club's changing facilities, gratefully accepting the offer of a
towel.
Showered, changed and feeling thoroughly refreshed I made my way to the
meeting room for a pre-meeting coffee and found that instead of biscuits
with the coffee they had a sort of own recipe "energy bar" which was another
pleasant surprise.
Oh, and the engineering meeting went OK too.
