  1. Hey all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any good weight workouts to help me become a stonger cyclist. I've been a triathlete in the Marines for the past four years, but am more passionate about just being a roadie. I get become a civillian next month, and want to race at the collegiate level next year.

I have a line on a good coach, team to train with and all that good stuff. I know I need to hit the gym pretty heavy because I'm quite lean (running upwards of 40 miles a week will do that to you) 6'2 / 165 (male).

    Advice Appreciated

  2. I use the squat machine and alternate legs. Lots of roman chair and sit-ups as intervals. Leg press machine and alternate leg positions. Twice a week I do calves until they 'start' burning. In general I use lots of reps 15-20. Try the coaching links.

there a lots of threads on this in the training forum.

weight training is only benificial for cycling if you are concerned with your performance during efforts 1 minute or shorter. sprinting is improved the most by weights.

if you are looking for better endurance, don't do lots of weights. although some upper body weight training will help protect you if you crash. weights should only be done during the off season, unless you are focusing on solely track sprinting.

check out the disscusions in the training forum.
