  1. so i just purchased cyclingpeaks since its a million times better than the powertap software, and i was wondering what the purpose of the chalkboard is. i read the users guide, but it seems like the athlete home page covers everthing the chalkboard can do.

also, are there any graphs people find very useful that i could add? i plan on making one that tracks my w/kg over the next few years. but what about something more short term?

ive already made the performance manager graph but i dont have enough data yet to be useful. (only about 7 rides)

At one time, the chalkboard was referred to "the sandbox", in that it gives you a place to play with different views of (any subset) of your data without messing with the settings for your Athlete's Home Page. For example, you may wish to filter the files your analyzing to only include those from races, then look at, e.g., the distribution of your power output with zero values included. That can be helpful in determining whether you're being conservative enough in races (by taking advantage of opportunities to coast), whereas during routine training we really don't care how much time we spend not pedaling.

As for additional graphs for the Home Page, here's how mine is set up: at the top (of course) is the Performance Manager chart, then I have 1) charts tracking my power-duration and normalized-power duration curves for this season and all-time (i.e., since 1999), 2) charts tracking my mean maximal power over 5 s, 1 min, 5 min, and 20 min (since I do lots of 20 min efforts, this is equivalent to my functional threshold power) for both this season (every 28 d) and all-time. Since my body mass never flucuates significantly, I never change this value in the program, and so leave the power data expressed in watts. If your weight does go up and down significantly, though, you can change any of these charts to show W/kg, i.e., no need to create another chart.

All other ways of looking at the data, I either use the Chalkboard or Excel...

  3. Andy,

Has any thought been given to adding 'planning' functionality to the performance manager in CP software?

I think it would be helpful if we had the ability to look forward for a few weeks being able to easily plug in different combinations of target daily TSS values to examine different ways to get to target CTL & TSB for a particular event.

This feature would truly make spreadsheet versions of the training manager obsolete.

We are trying to stand steadfast by our originial philosophy that WKO+/CPsoft is a post -analysis tool. So, with that in mind, we are developing an app for planning that will be similar to the TrainingPeaks Desktop Companion that coaches now use. We'll have an athlete version as well.
