  1. Can't believe I'm just now finally getting around to doing this.... But this past spring, my team was invited to the national training center (in Korea) for a training camp. It was awesome. Here are some pictures:

Nice big dorms....with a seedy character in front of them. :p

This is (obviously) the roller room. There was a weight room next to this, but I didn't go in there. 😉

Two nice tracks on the premises and an MTB course as well. Awesome roads in the area too. Perfect for training. Oh yeah, and that hill you see behind the track was only part of the warmup.

Here's a shot of the other track, made of wood with no roof.

Here's a sprint workout area. That hill behind the sprint lanes was SUPER steep. I was barely able to walk up it on my spent legs. I didn't see it, but the residents supposedly do sprints DOWN that thing!

The center is funded by Speedom, the country's track gambling program. Our team sprinter just got accepted into it and will be one of their pros from now on.

Overall, it was a great experience. That was my first time at any kind of training center for cycling. It was really serious but cool and motivational.

And I was totally worked by the end of the camp....

  2. Wow, that is by far the coolest place I've ever seen. Is that by invitation only ? or can anyone go ? (for some big $ I'm sure).

A Pinarello in Korea?? Oh, the irony! 😄

Wow, you can tell that thing is a wall by looking at it. Wouldn't the downhill be used to help get up to speed for sprinting along the flat?

Super cool pics. Must be nice to be a cycling "rock star" and get to see/use this kind of facility for training. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  4. Gman, it's by invite. Our sponsor provides bikes to several national team members, so that's how we got in. Good working out with the fast guys. They have some good riders here, and I think we'll be hearing more about them on the international level pretty soon.

Frenchy, hard for me to say how steep that hill is. Definitely more than 25% because I've been on that, and this was steeper. You are right, they go down that hill and sprint. I just can't imagine the cadence they are rocking (not by choice on a track bike) by the time they hit the bottom of that hill though!

Yeah, there were all kinds of bikes there. Pinarellos, BTs, Interpro (actually a Korean brand), and Times (used by the road team). But really, Korean riders tend to go all out on their bike gear. It's a completely different scene from back home. I feel like I'm at Interbike at every race!

Anyway, I think everyone on this board would have a great time working out there. Really, the facilities and the roads around it make it like an amusement park for cyclists.
