  1. I am new to cycling and I was wondering if there are some tips to improve my time, distance and speed. I am learning how to use my gears right now. I can go about 18 miles in about 1.5 hours. I would like to set a pace at about 20 mph and work up to 30 miles, maybe more. I can probably do about 12/13 mph. I have a mountain bike for the moment, I bought it years ago its still in great condition since I havent used it much. Also any opinions on the indoor trainers for bikes where you bring your bike inside(not sure of the exact name) but not the bikes they have at gyms.

Ideally I would like to bike to work and thats 13 miles (by car) and would like to do that in 30/35 minutes and its against the wind. I would like to work up my miles so I can do some long charity races next summer and push myself.

Any help would be greatly apprecitated

  2. For training I personally have a coach and that helps a lot to have someone that actually knows what they are doing to help you get results. Plus iot takes a lot of stress off you. If you cant find/afford, as some may not be cheap depending on who they are and where they live, I would say look online for a good book on training "the cyclists training bible" by joe friel would be a good one to help you with that. For indoor trainers (someone got really creative coming up with that name) I would recomend the Kinetic trainer by kurt but sometimes these can be overpriced or hard to find so my second choice would be to go with a cyclops trainer. Any kind would do depending on your budget. And lastly I would get a good road bike. they may not seem like a necesity but it will greatly increse your speed but also make longer rides much more comftorable and enjoyable. I hope this helped you out.

  3. Thank you for the tips, it really helped!

  4. Add a few tips:
1 - do you fine tune the measurements of your bike: Seat height is critical to have a technical act that does not cause problems
2 - Surely you have a computer that measures distance and RPM. If you do not have it I suggest you buy it
3 - Do not focus on the distance, but improves the way you ride: Do not start pedalalre hard. for your first 10 hours trying to ridebikes with agility. Sarrebe interesting to maintain a cadence around 100 RPM. What ratio to use? Use a report that you do not"make the legs swell." At the end of your tour you do not have the legs hard.
Every once in a 4-up tries to do stretches of road out of the saddle (30 seconds is fine).
5-learn to drink small sips every 15 minutes.
6 - the important thing is to try not to think about the speed but to improve the ride.

Obviously if you can I suggest you go out with an expert cyclist who has many years of experience!

    Daniele
