  1. Hi

I am trying to plan a 4 day ride ending in Madrid and starting somewhere with good air links (eg
Valencia, Malaga etc) and covering 300-350 miles (500km). Can handle reasonably steep terrain but
nothing too extreme. Beutiful scenery and points of interest along the way would be aplus

Would be grateful for any recommendations of starting points and routes.

    Many thanks

If you start from Valencia, go through Cuenca. Cuenca is a beautiful town with houses hanging from a
cliff. I love it. The area is little populated and probably great for cycling if you don't mind
adding 30 more km to your day to find the next hotel. However, if you start now in winter, be aware
that the climate of central Spain is very different from that of the coast. The Mediterranean coast
is usually mild in winter, with day temperatures about 10-20 °C, while the inland areas are at
relatively high altitude (Cuenca is at 1000 m) and definitely continental, so you can really expect
freezing temperatures and possibly snow. Good luck !

    Jacques

I can really recommend Toledo which isn't far from Madrid and well worth a visit.
