You realize, of course, that the From: header in your
post contains your e-mail address in clear text,
rendering your somewhat odd attempt at obscuring in in
the body of your post completely useless? If you want to
make your e-mail address more secure, you need to mung it
in your From: header.

I would like to laugh a little and the say that I hate
spammer and what we have to go thru to post stuff on the
internet....Sorry William....

I have a "dumb" account for spam.....ie the one that is
listed.....I don't check it much and that might make it hard
for people to reply.....You could setup and email for your
trip (Ireland is great to visit by the way, watch out for
the small roads) and use it to post your messages and delete
it when you get back.....that has always worked for me.....

"Go through" what stuff? I post to Usenet using my e-mail
address as-is. I post to Web sites using my e-mail address
as-is. I've been doing this for over 10 years.

I have server side spam blocking which is fairly effective
(90% or so) and client side Bayesian filtering. I usually
see about three or four spams a day making it into my e-mail
inbox. Once in a while I comb through the cruft and save
anything that's legit, and fix it so that it is passed
through the filters in the future. I spend, oh, about 10
minutes a day tops dealing with spam.

The best way to protect yourself is to make sure that your
e-mail software and newsreaders are not stupid (which pretty
much boils down to "not Microsoft"😉 and don't open e-mail,
automatically run executables, etc. Or use a platform less
prone to attack, of which there are several. Insist that
your ISP install server side filtering and get good client
side filtering for yourself. I find that Emacs/Gnus with
spam.el does a good job (and is very flexible, being
configurable to use SpamAssassin, Vipul's Razor, etc), as
does Apple's Mail application with good built-in Bayesian
filtering.

I've found the best way to deal with spam is to download
nothing but to inspect it at the IOL mail site and then
delete all the rubbish without downloading it.
