  1. Anyone else cross-train between these two sports? This forum topic put
me in mind to ask from the cycling point of view:

"It also works the other way too. I have been bicycle road racing for
the last three years on a staple diet of 4 days a week training on
skates!! and getting decent results too!!

I cycle to commute as well as additional training to my skating. I too
think there's massive benefit to be had from cycling.

When we were cycling in Holland at Christmas we came across several
in-line skaters on the cycle paths. One day we were even overtaken by a
couple of skiers as well as coming across several recumbents and a
    unicyclist out for the day.

Up to a point. I don't really "train" much for anything, but I do do
things that I realise are generally beneficial between sports. Since I
go cycling and free heel skiing as two of my preferred activities it's
good to have thighs that can crack coconuts, and especially with the
technique crossover to ski-skate it makes a lot of sense for me to go
roller skating. Plus I quite like roller skating...

Up the Tay Bridge is a mile and a half gentle incline, quite hard to
sustain at speed the whole way. Coming down is a screamer, where I try
and work on glide, getting between sets of lamp-posts on each leg of a
    V. That's hard too, but fun!

    Pete.

  4. Yes, I was wondering if you were going to post, I googled a bit on
    skating in this n.g. 🙂

Can't say I'm hugely serious about my training, but I do like skating
recreational marathons so at least a little training is in order for
that. I'm not particularly fast either, but I did manage a 1:26 for
Berlin last year, and cycling had a huge part in that. I'd like to
improve that this year if I can. The winning pro time was 1:04, sadly
skates just aren't as efficient as bikes.
