  1. The thrust of this has been around for a long time (that health benefits of
    cycling outweigh health problems from cycle accidents) but what I did find
    interesting (at least for Oz) was -

    Cycling deaths decreased by 82% from 1950 to 2003 (142 pa down to 26 pa)
    over a period when both numbers of cars and cyclists substantially
    increased.

    Incidence of road death in cyclists 7 times lower than incidence in
    pedestrians, although incidence of serious injury roughly the same as
    between cyclists/pedestrians.

    Greatest risk group for seriously injured were kids 16 or younger (46% of
    total).
