I have a longjohn wetsuit. I don't know if the long legs
help me. I was thinking of cutting it above my knees. My
feet don't sink. Do people have expereince with longjohns vs
shorties? Are longjohns much better?

Longjohns = more leg floatation. In my opinion, this is only
a factor if you are a bad swimmer.
Also, just so you know, I have cut several wetsuits, not for
the same purpose as yours, but cutting worked well for
years. No raveling, etc.
