Yesterday afternoon I was cycling to a friend's house to drop off some books when a group of skater kids started crossing the road (from my right). I start steering towards the kerb to pass in front of them. The lead charva decides that he is going to have some fun and attempts to shoot his skateboard under my wheels so I swerve the other way to miss the board.
This manoeuvre results in my book filled right pannier knocking skater charva's legs from under him, yet somehow I stay on and stop outside my friend's house a few metres further down the street. The charva picks himself up and continues on his way.
There I discover that the impact has buckled my rack, shoved my right rear mudguard stay through the pannier's fabric and damaged the clamps in some way meaning I couldn't get the pannier off. Bloody nuisance 🙁
Still, the nice people at Carradice are sending me new clamps and a cotton patch as I write; their customer service is excellent, as are their bags.

Although he will be putting on the "didn't hurt a bit" act for his mates you will at least have the satifaction of knowing that he'll be quite sore for a day or two. :-)

Indeed. When I was getting covered in loctite and oil when fitting the new rack last night I held onto that thought, tightly... 🙂
