  1. I remember watching the World Championship marathon a couple of months ago on the bbc and and I
    think it was either Steve Cram or Brendon Foster who was keeping tabs on the British runner in the
    men's race(there was only one who had achieved the qualification mark). They were saying that that
    he was on course for a 2-17 to 2-19 time and then at about the half way mark it appeared that he had
    given up and dropped out. I don't know if he had retired from the race or finished the course but it
    got me thinking that it is entirely possible that Paula Radcliffe could be the number one marathoner
    in Britain at the moment. If that is the case then it says volumes about Radcliffe's astonishing
    talent and the dire straights that british men's middle to long distance runners have sunk.

  2. Oops, just checked Mark Steinle's result: 2:15:41.

    True, looks like Paula is fastest marathon runner this year: 2:15:25 (WR set in London). Amazing!
