Its a beautiful day in Central Scotland, though did I hear mention that its raining down south?
I am just back from a splendid 32 miles over the hilly ground from Glasgow to Stewarton, taking in as many of the little lanes as possible on the way back. The route takes you up onto a highish plateau (200-250m) which unexpectedly rewards you with views over the Clyde estuary and towards the Highlands. Motor traffic was minimal. I really recommend getting up there for any Glasgow cyclists who have not tried it.
The highlight of the trip was a cuckoo which landed on a fence post about 15m ahead of me. When I approached to within about 8m it flew off and settled on another fence post about 15m ahead. As I cycled it did this repeatedly, flying up and each time setting about 15m ahead of me, about 15 times in total. Absolutely brilliant.

I have had a cuckoo do this with me in Glen Strathfarrar as I rode out after a long day on the hills, it made up for the heavy traffic as I rode in. -- Phil Cook looking north over the park to the "Westminster Gasworks"
