  1. For those of you with long-term CTL data: what sort of change (positive or negative) does it seem to take before you see a noticeable change in fitness?

Having trouble following you here. You could do 1 hour sweet spot rides for months with the only changes being those necessary to track increasing FTP. Say 1 hour at 91% FTP, your IF would be ~ .9 and your TSS a steady 81 per day. Even with that plan you should expect to see positive changes in your fitness over time but your TSS would be constant and your CTL would flatten out near 81TSS/d if you do it long enough.

I'm not recommending that program, just commenting that delta TSS or delta CTL is not a prerequisite for positive adaptation. Trying to optimize your adaptation and trying to plan an appropriate CTL ramp, that's a different question but I'm not sure what question you're asking.

I find if my CTL is up I have more left at the end of a MTB race.

Instead of CTL, my peak CPs tend to come after period of lower TSB followed by a period of more possitive TSB followed by a shorter quick down period (say a really hard ride), the Peaks seem to show up on the up swing from that last hard ride.
