am planning on setting up new crit bike. i weigh about 90kg and do no road races. is an all carbon frame suitable or would a carbon/alloy combo be better for sprinting on? what wheels does anyone recommend?

Given that you are a big guy looking for a crit-specific frame, you might actually want to consider an all-Alu frame for rigidity.
If you go with carbon choose your frame carefully, as some are designed to be more comfortable than rigid, and what you need, with your weight and the riding you want to do, is a rigid frame.
