I have noticed that on some criss-cross cabled bikes such as the Specialized
Hardrock, the front derailleur portion of the bottom bracket cable guide is
dropped by 5mm or so, presumably to prevent the cables from rubbing under
the downtube. However, the same type of dropped cable guide ended up on a
Giant OCR3 that I finished up for a coworker. He crossed the cables, which
were pre-cut at the factory for an uncrossed configuration, as the bars
could not be turned more than 30 degrees because the derailleur housing was
too short.
It seems that the new dropped bottom bracket cable guides are there to fix
the rub problem, and they seem to work fine when uncrossed, too. Has anyone
else noticed this?
