I recently acquired a nice old Sugino crankset, the one that looks like a pretty good knock off of a Campy Nuovo Record.
The trouble is that it has French threading for the pedals. Is it possible to get these threads retapped to the "standard" pedal threading?
Would this be a simple retap or a drill and Helicoil?

French pedal threads can easily be re-tapped to english. You will need pedal taps that are 9/16 diameter and 20 threads per inch. You will need a left hand thread and a right hand thread tap. Drive side is right hand thread and non-drive is left hand thread. French threads are metric at 14mm and 1.25 threads per mm. No problem!
One more thing I should tell you. When you tap the crank arms do it from the inside out.

Thank you very much! I think I will let my local shop handle this, as I don't want to acquire a reverse tap for one use!
The crankset is too nice not to use.
