Hello!
I'm looking to get my first set of clipless pedals. I usually ride a moderately paced 30 miles 3 or 4 days a week. I'll also be riding the Reach the Beach 100 mile this spring. My new pedals will be strictly for my road bike (a Scott Speedster S3 triple).
Anyways,
What can anybody tell me about the Candies vs. the Eggbeaters for road cycling?
I can get the C version of Candies for $40 bucks so that is a huge plus.

The Eggbeaters are easier to clip in/out, and because of the simple design there is less to break or go wrong. The only advantage of the Candy is the small platform if you plan to occasionally ride while not actually clipped in.
To allow me to use the same shoes and cleats, I have Eggbeaters on 2 mountain bikes and my road bike. They are high quality pedals and I don't see switching anytime soon. I tried the Mallet (think large Candy) on a mountain bike for a few months, but the platform proved to be nothing but a hindrance for me. Just wondering, why do you want mountain bike pedals when you stated they are strictly for your road bike?
