  1. The frame on my 2001 Marin Sausalito cracked around the bottom bracket
for the third time last week. It was replaced under warranty, again,
and this time the frame is a current model year with obviously
different welds. So I am on my fourth frame, hopefully one that will
last longer than a year. The bike looks a bit odd, with a gun metal
grey frame but silver other bits, but it rides well, no more flexing as
    I pedal.

Just a quick note to thank ATB, the Marin importers, for delivering a
new frame to the LBS within two days and not even requiring any
    receipts or paperwork.

sounds very much like a known problem and that you are not the only one with
    it........ummmmm!

Oh yes definitely. The bike shop guy said "ok, another cracked Marin
frame, we get them all the time".

Was the broken one an aluminium or steel frame?

All three cracked frames were aluminium, as is the current one,
    described as:
7000 Series Double Butted Aluminum with Edge II Top Tube and Edge Down
    Tube, Tri-Burner Seat and Chainstays
