Hi! Ok... I have been trying to look up info online about cracked aluminum frames... A few weeks ago I cracked the tube the runs near my chain and back wheel (I believe its called the chainstay, but I am not that great at bike anatomy as i am new to cycling).
I have a specialized dolce elite. I was wondering if this has ever happened to anyone? Also, how much did it cost to get fixed and should it be a major concern? Nothing fell off... and i've ridden it since and it seems ok... I am just concerned what might happen over time. I plan to call some local bike shops later on in the week.
Can you post a pic or tell us more about what it looks like? If your chainstay is really cracked, the frame is toast...you can't fix an aluminum frame. That's a key attribute of aluminum, it's light and stiff, but once it flexes, it's given up the ghost. I wouldn't feel safe descending or riding on rough roads on a frame that is REALLY cracked: it's a matter of time until what's likely to be a catastropic failure.

If you're the original owner of the bike and this happened under normal riding conditions (not doing 4' drops and urban assault, for example), the frame should be covered under warranty. Check with your LBS before taking any chances with your safety.
